50+ Points 10+ Points First Lesson Complete

Hi I am Surbhi Gosain, I am a Mental Health First Aider and work in HR for a Charitable organization.

I am currently working on the two key points with other mental health first aiders:

  1. How to bring awareness to staff about what MHFA do and so they can promote it further to support others with this service?
  2. How to reduce the stigma around mental health, so staff feel comfortable approaching a MHFA?

Hi @surbhi-gosain

It's wonderful to hear from you and learn about the impactful work you're doing as a Mental Health First Aider within your charitable organisation.

Addressing your key points, raising awareness about MHFA roles and reducing stigma are crucial steps towards creating a more supportive and understanding work environment. Here are a couple of thoughts and suggestions:

Increasing Awareness: Consider launching an internal campaign that highlights the role and benefits of MHFAs. This could include sharing testimonials (with permission) from staff who have benefited from MHFA support, informational posters, and regular features in your organisation's communications (like newsletters or intranet). Hosting informal 'meet your MHFA' sessions can also demystify their role and encourage more personal connections.

Reducing Stigma: Education is a powerful tool against stigma. Organising workshops or training sessions that address common myths about mental health, share facts, and teach everyone how to support someone can be very effective. Creating a culture where mental health is openly discussed at all levels of the organisation can also make a significant difference. Leadership involvement in these discussions can set a powerful example.

Remember, small, consistent actions can lead to significant cultural shifts over time. Your work is creating a ripple effect of positive change, and I'm excited to see how your initiatives will continue to evolve and make a difference.

Keep up the fantastic work, and please feel free to share any updates or seek further advice here. You're not alone on this journey!
